Hump Day Giveaway: December Goal, Please

December 1, 2010
by

The only thing between you and a goal on December 31st: one (important) piece.

As I mentioned on Monday, December is great for many things: overstuffing yourself with 2,000 calories of just cookies; overspending on plastic toys that will be interesting for exactly three hours, then will forgotten forever; oversaturating yourself with family time so that by December 31, you fantasize about being at a New Year’s Eve party when you were 22 years old, wondering who you might kiss at midnight. It’s the only way to escape the reality of going to bed at 9:30 (it’s midnight somewhere!) because one kid is sick so you’ll be up again within hours and because you need to be asleep before your husband, who snores loudly when he drinks too much champagne.

What to do? Make it more overscheduled, of course. But in a good way. By making sure you take care of yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. By setting a doable exercise goal for December and then being accountable to your fellow RLAM’ers. Emphasize doable: this isn’t the month to shoot for the stars. Instead, think maintenance; keeping your fitness at its current level for December is definitely a success.

That said, my goal for December is to only miss one workout a week, which will have 5 cardio, 2 Pilates and 2 strength training workouts. (Sounds hard-core, but remember, I’m in button-down mode for the Mt. Taylor Quadrathlon. I’ve got a serious mountain to climb.) SBS, who doesn’t have a starting line on her mind this month, wants to make sure she does one hill workout a week.

Who needs a belly like a bowl full of jelly when this gnar jacket can keep you warm?

What’s your goal? Anything goes: it can range from the minimum (doing one workout at least every 72 hours) to marathon-training, if that’s where you’re at. Make it something you can chart weekly, and make it achievable. Let us know, and one random winner will take home a toasty, stylish Sierra Designs Gnar jacket. Unless you live in Alaska, you probably don’t want to run in it, but the streamlined puffy is perfect for everything else, from spectating a race to snowshoeing to giving your winter landscape a little lift.

A few administrative notes: For the month of December, I’ll put up a post every Sunday here, asking people to let us know how their week went. Not super techy, I realize, but it’ll do. Chime in if you’ve met your goal, chime in if you didn’t. After all, RLAM is about keeping it real and realizing we’re getting through this together.

Also, we had some requests to put up winners of contests here on the blog, and, from here on out, I’ll do that every Wednesday as well. I have and continue to also e-mail the winner(s), so with Facebook, the announcement here and a personalized e-mail, hopefully that’ll clear up any issues.

So happy December 1 to all. How are you going to survive–and thrive–during this month?

I’m heading to Hawaii on Saturday and while I’ve worked hard to prepare for Hawaii – I’m afraid I will let everything go downhill when I return. Therefore, I will make sure I continue my 3 runs a week – 2 strength training workouts, 2 spin classes and at least on yoga class. I set goals for myself with these workouts – if I do them, I get my $15 manicure every other week! If not, my nails look crappy!

The heater in our outdoor pool is in, so I’ll be back swimming… Alternating 2/3 swims per week, 2/3 runs per week, a bike and making friends with my foam roller! In my runs, I’m building to a 10K.

My goal is to try and work out (ideally run) three days per week this month. I think this will help me thrive during the holidays.

I hurt my hip 2 weeks ago, doing my first half marathon, so my goal this month is to rest until it feels better, and in the mean time, do some other workouts. I’ve start a Yoga and Pilates DVD, and my goal is to do them either everyday, or every other day, until I can run again. And then started running slowly, but keeping the DVDs in rotation. It was very easy for me not to do anything following the half, but now I know I need to do something while I can’t run, it is driving me crazy!

I am in simple maintenance mode – so my goal is 3 workouts a week – a workout in my book is anything over 30 minutes in duration – well at least for December. Come January I will bump it up a bit!

I’m so glad you’ve mentioned this-I really found myself thinking about it yesterday when I was home with three kids with strep. The strep trifecta. The strep hat trick. The strep triple threat. At least 2 are feeling better and going back to school today (despite their protests).

I’ve been in a post-marathon funk that I can’t seem to shake, so I think setting some goals this month is imperative. I’ve signed up for a February half-marathon but can’t seem to commit to the training schedule just yet.

I’m going to try to run 2-3 days a week, yoga once a week, strength at least once. I’d like to do more but I think it would be unrealistic of me to think so at this point.

    Thanks for keeping us accountable!

I’m five weeks post-partum, and I have two goals for December: to work out at least twice a week, and to have patience as my body gets back in shape, if not nearly as quick as I wish it would. The first goal is the easy one. The second is MUCH harder…

I have a whole bunch of tentative goals “running” through my head. Some of these I will probably be able to achieve next year, others will need some more time. I love making lists so I might as well plaster my current dream sheet here:

Complete the Chuckanut 50K trail run this March.
Chelan Man Triathlon in the summer
As well as a half Ironman this summer.

My future race is to compete in a FULL ironman by the time I’m 40.

In order to accomplish these I need to run 5 days a week. Swim 3 days a week, yoga 2 days a week and strength train 2 days a week. It is a lot but I have such a supportive husband, I wouldn’t be able to do it without him!

I am going to survive the craze of December by turning to my running buddies for motivation and support. We’ve huddled and made a plan that includes getting one night run in each week, a longer weekend run, plus texting each other when we suddenly realize, “OMG, if I leave in the next 5 min I can squeeze in an unplanned run!!” The other thing I am going to do to survive, is tap into some new tunes I downloaded from GirlTalk. Totally fun mashups that are fantastic to run to. They’re a combo of classic songs from the 80s (and some 90s, 00s, and even 60s!) and completely and skockingly (is that a word?)offensive rap.

  22. December 1, 2010 6:02 am

To help keep me on track, my husband has offered a full works day at my hair salon/day spa – mani/pedi, cut/color, facial, etc. If I don’t keep on track, I only get the scheduled cut/color. He’s especially holding me to the weight training. I hate it. Find any excuse to skip it. I really want that day at the spa!! So, I’ll do it.

My goal is to run enough so that I’m not saying “Oh s–t.” on the start line of the New Year’s Day 10K. Ha ha. And to be able to loan my about to give birth friend my “fat pants” right after the birth instead of keeping them for myself.

I want skipping a workout to feel as weird and uncomfortable as skipping coffee in the morning. So, I’m going to get on the treadmill 5 out of 7 days a week. I would love to commit to how long I’ll stay on the treadmill, but I don’t think that is as important as getting on. At least at this point! I’m sure I’ll be ready for Bloomsday at this rate! EEK!

Advent & Christmas is such a beautiful time of year to work on preparing our hearts for baby Jesus. Sometimes I am so busy taking care of the needs of our family, that mine for sure get put on the back burner. It’s important to nurture our hearts too, believe in ourselves, and repeat as Laurie says, “We are runners!” This is an amazingly AWESOME site! Gotta run… Maci just coated Mary Kate in makeup while she was trying to sleep in her swing.

My goal is to not put on the 5 pounds from Christmas baking. I love to bake and I love wine at the holidays. My other goal is to decide whether or not I’m going to do a 70.3 in the summer. But with the craziness of the holidays and year end plus the freezing temps and darkness in the morning I will be happy with about 3 3-4 mile runs per week, probably largely on the dread mill except on the weekends. I am trying to lose a little weight (5lbs) before Christmas day, so that is helping me stay focused on not overeating. Also trying not to have any wine except on the weekends. Weight workouts don’t seem to be a problem, but it’s cold and I don’t wanna go outside! So, my December goal is going to be to get my buns out at least twice for a run–one day for some speed work to improve my 5K time and one day for a longer run–each week. Now, off to find where my gloves have lost themselves because since I put it out there, I have to stick to it!!

So this means I’m going to keep my momentum going throughout December given I feel I’m in the best shape of my life (well, since having three kids!). Over the last two months, in addition to working through a long standing IT band issue, I some how tore my posterior meniscus in my knee. I got that calmed down enough to resume running, and was slowly building back up–then my first 5 miler back, I was WALKING up a hill and managed to sprain my big toe. That forced be out again for a while, and that, combined with a case of strep throat and another bout of the common cold have kept me off the streets. So, my goal for Dec is to regain my endurance and return to being able to run 5-6 miles 3-4 x a week with my running partners, rather then hobble through a 1/2-1 mile run/walk on my own. I actually ran 2.5 miles this morning, and other then my hamstrings feeling a bit tight, I am feeling pretty good!

I may have to temporarily scale back. I hope to maintain 4 runs per week, one 6 miles or longer (preferably 8-10)on the weekend. The long runs are so good for me! (Although, if we get some real snow I think cross-country skiing can substitute — it is one of the few things that can get me out on a dark December morning!)
I have actually (sort of) started to cross train — I will be so stoked if I can swim 3 times in December (I get a new swimsuit when I finish my punchcard!) I want to do a sprint triathlon next June, so I want to create a new habit with the swimming now…then the biking. Whew!

  62. December 1, 2010 7:57 am

My goal is to run a half marathon on my treadmill on New Year’s Eve. I hate my treadmill (like many of you do too) but it’s cold here in Nebraska so I also don’t like the cold and running in cold makes me …cold LOL So I opt for the treadmill and I needed a goal to keep myself going.

I have a marathon relay this weekend, and then I start training for my first half marathon Dec. 27.

After the relay, my goal is to take care of myself by stretching and icing as needed. And then I plan on making stretching a daily goal.

My running goals are to run at least 2 runs a week until training starts and then stick with my training plan.

I am also making a goal of doing my strength training 2x a week starting right after the relay and continuing throughout half training and beyond.

So, in a nutshell, daily stretching, strength training 2x a week, running 2x a week.

Then, since I’m having surgery four days later, my goal is to not fret/stew/go mad with the “no exercise or lifting for 4 weeks” orders that my doctor has put into place. ((Open to suggestions for how to accomplish my second goal which seems harder than the first one at this point!))

So I am setting my sites on the Whiskey Row 1/2 in my hometown in May. It is a much more difficult race because of all the dadgum hills and the mile high elevation, even so I am excited to do it.

My goal for December will be to get back to our “long runs” on the weekends and short runs at least 2 other times in the week, in addition to strength training at least twice a week. I want to run 5x a week and one long 10-12 miler. And I want to earn the Garmin 405 my husband bought on Amazon, thanks for the price tips RLAM’s, for my Christmas present!!!

My sister-in-law and I decided to hold one another accountable. We are going to check in every Saturday… With motivating “put that cookie down” text messages throughout the week. Our check-ins are going to consist of making sure that we work out at least 30 minutes, three times a week. I know that this isn’t inspiring to most RLAM’ers, but I just received clearance from my doctor for light exercise after my surgery and my sis is not an active person – besides running around chasing two kids. 🙂 We are also aiming to drink our 8 glasses of water.

I am scheduling my workouts the week before and making it an no-miss-appointment.

I have been maintaing 3 runs per week until last week – since I have been trying to catch up on sleep and chase after my almost walking 12 month old. (yikes)

For December I plan to get back to my 3 runs per week, and Yoga 2x week (this doubles for my strength training for the time being) and some biking 3x week.

my stepmother’s brother was VERY active and had an aneuryism and now lives in a rehab facility where basic movements have become his pt. Whenever I do not “feel like it” I think what he would give to have the ability we often take for granted to simply run; and that motivates me to not only get going–but kick it up a notch!! when you are finding lame excuses to get out of your workout–think of the people that would do anything to be able to do what you do…

I agree with thinking about those that don”t have the ability to do things anymore. It was horrible to watch my, strong as an ox, dad wither to nothing in the 7 months from his cancer diagnosis to his death this past January. His strength during 6 months of weekly chemo (that was nasty strong) is what inspired me to start running after he died. So my run for Team Hole in the Wall on January 8th has me coming full circle. He LOVED kids and he’s the reason I run (it continues to be my therapy), so it was a no brainer. I just had to get past the number of miles I have to run. A friend of mine started doing a “Running Advent” every Dec. to help get out of the rut that comes with cold weather. We run everyday from Dec 1 – Dec 25th, starting with .5 mile on Dec first, and adding a .5 mile every day until the midway point, then subtracting .5 mile until Dec 25th! So the longest run is 6.5 miles on Dec 13th. It is fun finding new routes to run the random distances, and it’s a great motivation because you don’t want to miss a day! My goal is to complete every day’s distance… but if not, at least I’ll be running nearly every day this month!

    1. Run 4 times a week
    2. Get my hiney in to the orthopedic surgeon so he can work on my knees and get me back out for more (and longer) runs. Winter break would be the perfect time for surgery since my hubby works in education.
    3. Strength training 2x per week so I’m ready to get back out there after surgery.

  147. December 1, 2010 11:27 am

I have two goals–one is to not take it so easy post-marathon that I can’t run a solid 5-miler at my favorite local race Dec. 18. This is a tightrope to walk, however, because I don’t really think I should do any speedwork in this month after a marathon. At the same time, I’d love to break 35 at the race, as I’ve come within 10 seconds of doing so.

The second goal is to actually begin marathon base-building again b/c I have a spring marathon. Not so keen to start ramping up the miles, I must admit, but beginning next week, it’s time!

Oh how I wish I had a goal! I finished a half in October and have been in a funk ever since! My husband has been traveling for most of November and then returned to have shoulder surgery (tough to have him watch the baby when he cannot pick him up). I too must learn to embrace the dreadmill. The goal I keep trying to commit to is 2-3 on dreadmill and one weekend run on the road. 2 days of strength and 2 days of yoga (at least one). Then I would love to swim, but not sure where I can fit that in! Hopefully the inspiration I get from reading all the goals above will kick me into gear! I think I need another race 🙂

Back in October I woke up one morning and my knee was hugely swollen. Lots of doctor’s appointments and tests later I’m told it’s likely a virus (a flu virus at that!). Apparently they can settle in your knee. Lots of jokes about my knee needing a kleenex, etc. ensued. Joking aside, though, it’s been pretty crappy. Luckily it hasn’t been that painful – and painkillers mostly took care of what pain there way. But my knee was so swollen for weeks that I could barely walk – some days I was bordering on needing crutches. My knee was just so stiff that I literally could barely move it – so even non-weight bearing things like a bike or swimming were out. I finally got put on Celebrex (arthritis drug) which helped with the inflammation. It is (mostly) OK now, but I can still feel a twinge there… and every few days it stiffens up just a tiny bit. Long story short – I haven’t done anything in a long time and am afraid to overdue it and aggravate whatever is going on in there – but I have to start doing something. So my goal for December is 20 minutes a day – either walking outside, walking on the treadmill, pilates, dumbell workout, etc. No running or aerobics videos yet to be safe. Just something to ease me back into things. Surely I can squeeze in 20 min somewhere each day – and with the treadmill and pilates videos, there’s no excuses around weather and time. (Maybe I can win a special prize for the least strenuous goal?? lol).

My mom lost her nearly 2-year battle with brain cancer five weeks ago (just 2 weeks after I ran my first half-marathon) and every semblance of routine, structure and discipline in my life came crashing down. I have run exactly 3 times in that 5 weeks. My last run was Thanksgiving Day, and it was a dreadfully difficult 5 miles. It’s hard for me to believe how quickly I’ve lost the fitness level I worked so hard to build while training for my half. So my goals for December are two-fold: first, get back into it, at least 2 runs per week and hopefully 3. Second, be kind to myself, and forgiving.

  159. December 1, 2010 12:24 pm

My goal is to just keep running, even if it means getting up at 4:30am to drive into the gym before work (which I did this morning). I hope to get in at least 3 shorter runs and 1 longer run per week. By shorter, I mean 3.5 – 4.5 miles. By longer, I mean 6+. My diet is slacking a bit this month, so I’m trying to really stay on top of my running to at least maintain my weight (another goal, although I’d love to drop a couple lbs this month).

  160. December 1, 2010 12:25 pm

November was the month of the sick around these parts, so December goal is BACK TO IT. 3 runs and 2 core/strengths workouts every week through Christmas Eve when I leave for vacation with my whole crew. My goal for December is to not have a goal. Which feels really weird. And a little scary.

This year, I have done 2 1/2s, 2 10Ks, a 4 miler, a 5K, a Duathalon and a sprint Tri. It has been a great year, I have PRd in everything but the 5K (that was last year).

But now, I just need to chill, if only for a month. So, I want to run 3x a week, but no speed, no tempos or no longs. No prescribed paces, just easy. Then, I will try to xt twice a week.

My goal for January is to train for another 10K and start swimming so I can enter an Olympic tri sometime next summer.

Picking a goal for December alone is a very good idea. I have a giant 2-year running goal, but breaking it up into smaller bits will help. One part of this big goal is cleaning up my diet, a tough thing at this time of year. So my new December goal is to eat no junk food brought to work by my well-meaning co-workers. I know I won’t avoid junk food altogether this month (after all, I have to make cookies with my kids, right?). But I can control how much junk I eat by avoiding that unexpected plate of cookies left over from someone’s retirement party and all the other stuff that rolls through work in December.

As a music teacher, December is a back-breaking month with extra rehearsals, concerts, etc., and of course fitness is often the first thing to go. So – my goal is two-fold:
    1. Keep my fitness routine going – this means running a minimum of 5 days a week – with at least one “long” run (for me that would be five miles right now) and one day of some sort of speed work. On the other three days I’ll take whatever trotting around I can get.
    2. Add in some cross-training. I’m aiming for one workout a week that isn’t running. Pilates maybe, or possibly a spin class. We’ll see how it goes.

  200. December 1, 2010 5:14 pm

Minimally, I’d like to run at least 3 times a week while building my mileage, but I’d really like to run 4 times a week and throw in 1 day of cross training. This time of year is so tough in terms of diet and finding time to work out.

going back to hard core kettlebells as soon as this marathon is over on Sunday. taking a couple weeks off the crazy miles then ramping them up again. Marathon in March and 50k in April means very little rest for me. 🙂

hmm….my goals. I just finished NYC and found out that I have been running with a torn labrum in my left hip! No wonder I have been in pain for the last 6 months. Surgery next week, physical therapy to follow with no running for three months. SO…….my goals are to tighten up the nutrition by going to a nutritionist and completing as much physical therapy that is allowed and to maintain some sort of sanity. I believe that I am allowed to ride a stationary bike. Do it as much as allowed! I would love to hear discussion on your fan page for other moms who have had the same issue! I am kinda freaking out! Thank you so very very much!

I’m incorporating two things into December: core training, and motivation. I’m sorely lacking in both right now. Since running a half a month ago, both my son and I have been sick 3 of the 4 weeks and it made a mess of my running performance. Perfectionist mama doesn’t like that and has been very negative during this first healthy week. I need to get back to feeling like even the simplest 5K doesn’t take it all out of me. That, and my posture is crap.
(and this was just for accountability – as much as i love that jacket, our 40-degree night tonight probably comprises our winter, so i’m donating my entry to a mama who’s got to have a new jacket!)

I would like to at least do between 15-20 miles/week. It will make me feel better and be a better person to be around. And I notice that I get about the same amount of work done in the AM if I run or if I don’t (and getting up at the same time), so I might as well be out there not feeling guilty about the Christmas cookies.

I will be off work for the last 2 weeks of Dec and I am going to try and make it the the Tues AM Pilates class both weeks – in addition to the Mon evening. It’s good for me. I must keep chanting that over and over or I might not go!

I’m training for my first marathon. My goals are to get my weekly mileage in, no matter the weather, even if it means running on a treadmill (ugh). Also, I’m racing a 5-miler in 2 weeks, and my goal is to finish with a sub-9 average pace.

Since September I have been picking a different cancer cause a month to run miles for and each mile I run I put in $1 for each mile and donate it. My father passed 3 years ago from Glioblastoma Mutliforme, an aggressive primary brain cancer, and since then my running has taken on a new cause. I am a shy person and my voice is not big, so I use running as a way to raise awareness and make a change. This month my goal is to run 40 miles a week or more and the money will be going to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. I worked in the PICU as an RN for over a year and saw many children pass from cancer. My goal this month is to raise enough money to help out a bit and hopefully help a family who is spending Christmas in the hospital with their child.

Jolene, my mom died in April ’08 as a result of her treatment for Glioblastoma Multiforme. What a great, great way to have something positive come from your father’s death. A suggestion: have you checked out the Chris Elliot Fund? They are also on Facebook and are dedicated to GBM research and patient support.

my goal is to keep moving even when the thermometer has stopped! This is my first winter running and I am terrified of slipping on ice and/or freezing to death. My friend who lives in the Netherlands told me to dress in layers and wear a hat and scarf. So my goal is to stay alive and not go into hibernation. I am planning to do a triathlon in July with my nephew (who is very overweight, as am I) and I have to set a good example. So far we have done 2 5ks together and hope to do a half marathon in the spring. That won’t happen if I hibernate this month…

My goal is a little wacky–Im so hardcore all or nothing and its burning me out. Add the stresses of the holiday and I am a mess. So for me my pact is to be easy on myself. Do 10, do 8, do 6. Dont worry about the number, worry about just doing. I am also giving myself 1 rest day a week of pure vegetation with no guilt. So 6 days a week run atleast 4 but mostly 9 (my regular) and 1 day a week relax, FOR REAL. I hope this helps me greet the holidays healthy AND happy. Running should be a stress reliever, not a stress giver.

My goal with the upcoming “la-nina” winter that we are supposed to have? To get the kids off to school, and then to get that first foot out the door for my morning run, without “complaining” about the darn rain. Yes, it is wet outside. Yes, I will get wet. So, so what? I need to have a positive mental attitude. I just registered for my 5th 100 miler ultra race to compete in on 2/7/11, so in order to train for that, I need to be out there on Saturdays during December and January, getting my long run in — NO MATTER WHAT the darn Portland rainy grey cold weather is doing. JUST GET IT DONE!!! That will be my new mantra.

Is to get out of bed in the morning. The dark cold mornings in Chicago are every excuse I need to roll over and go back to bed. I can go to the YMCA and workout later when the sun is out but that means the dreaded tredmill!!!! I love running outside but the thought of leaving my bed and going out into the cold and dark is not very inviting. If I can get outside once a week and keep up my runs of 7 or 8 miles and I know I won’t go that far on the treadmill, for sure! Then I can do my shorter runs of 3 to 5 miles on the treadmill. I just have to brave the cold once a week and I can keep up my current level. I worked so hard this summer I don’t want it to dissappear.

Second, I need to get my race calendar figured out. Looking for a 10K (haven’t done one yet), a half, and a 30K to get on the calendar for the first half of 2011.

With 2 boys 4 and 2, a husband, and a very demanding full ti me job that sometimes requires a lot of international travel, my goal for december is simple. To take every opportunity I have to make it into a run. Convert running an errand into actually running in order to get that errand done, and to see every run as a blessing and be thankful for it, and enjoy it, as I don’t have the certainty on when I will be able to go out for another one again.

I will take advantage of little chances, and go out for 2 or 3 minute runs in a day, instead of a 1 hr long one if I dont have the chance, and I will make it challenging: repeats, speed work, intervals, etc..

I will enjoy my cross training when the weather is just forcing me to stay indoors, and will also feel like a real badass mother runner when I challenge the weather and go out when every inch of my body begs to stay inside and warm.
Most of all, I will make my goal to continue to be healthy, fit and strong to survive the holidays and make it the most enjoyable for my kids.

I start training for Big Sur/Runner’s World Challenge (maybe we will see one of you thre???)at the beginning of January. Experience has told me, now is the time to lose the 5-8 pounds and strength train like crazy, because it won’t happen while I’m training for the marathon. So…that is the plan. Lots of maintenance running, strength training and point counting (I always go back to Weight Watcher’s system to drop a few pounds). The first two weeks should be easy, at least compared to the two holiday weeks…

With the freezing rainy weather upon us, I spend too much time at the gym running and strength training. Everyday I am there. I am overcompensating for my lack of fresh air. Too much for me, and too much for my 2.5 year old daughter (who sits in junior club drawing and playing dolls-INSIDE). With the extra gym time, the onset of the holidays, family feasting, and long car rides to visit friends and family, I realize I am not the only one going stir crazy. SO-My goal is to take a DAY OF REST for me and get my daughter outside for a work out. I consider a stroll through the local state park a rest day, for the kid pace will not make me break a sweat. On the other hand, she will get some much needed fresh air. We will both be happier and healthier for it.
PS-RLAM you have been an inspiration to me. After I read your book, I was no longer intimidated about running. I went from a sloppy, down trodden 162lbs who couldn’t run a tenth of a mile (in February 2010) to a happy, energetic 125lb. I now run ~15 miles/week. I thank you, my husband thanks you, my daughter thanks you.

Slow & blisters, but I did it! So more regular training & a little speedwork to start. I also want to try snowshoeing at least once this month, so that jacket would be perfect for it :))

Month of December started with a 5:30 a.m. swim before a 7:40 a.m. flight. Not sure how I fit it in, but damn glad I did. Morning workouts scheduled with friends will get me out for a run or swim few days a week. A brand-new, snazzy bike trainer and a reliable treadmill in the basement, plus a few days of skiing will fill in the rest of the gaps this month. I also have a goal to do P90x ab-ripper workout 10 times this month – in January I am going on a mini-cruise with my husband so I want to look great in my bikini :). That is pretty darn motivating.

    Have fun out there!

For Christmas, I’m joining a gym since it gets snowy and icy here, and I plan to cross-train in their pool and on their strength training equipment.

Besides actually working out, I plan on assessing where I am and where I want to be in 2011. I have never been in a race, so definitely aiming to start that in the summer, with at least one race in the summer and one in the fall.

In better weather I don’t have as much of a problem getting in 20 mile weeks but in the cold weather my mileage has been dropping. So back to 5 runs a week, 1 rest day, and 1 cross-training. Also if there is no snow or ice I need to get outside for runs on the weekend.
