December Goal: #1 Check-In

December 5, 2010
by

Only four days since you set yourself a goal for December.

I–Dimity–have already missed my one workout for the week: Pilates on Friday. I got home super late from the airport on Thursday night, came home to dog pee in the basement that was stinking up the whole house (another 25 minutes before I can go to bed), remembered I needed to volunteer at Amelia’s school on Friday morning, and knew that getting in Pilates before volunteering wasn’t going to fly. So I reluctantly took a pass.

How’s it going for you so far? You hanging in?

I have missed 2 scheduled runs. I did make it to strength train on Dec. 1 and Dec. 3. I am going to go out today despite lack of sleep and freezing temps.

Got my long run in this week–a 21K race. I was fighting a chest cold all week, but I went out anyway and am so glad I did. The cold air definitely did my lungs some good.

I only missed yesterday’s workout – it seemed like my new workout schedule is wearing me out. I added 3 days of cross training, and it was a little too much. Plus 30 minutes of Pilates was too much for me. I am going to try to be a little more reasonable this week.

I also fought a cold all week but I did alright with five days of running and I did yoga once so I’m going to call that my x-training 🙂 I only did my PT exercises once so I guess I failed on that front.

I am one day off on my three runs for this week. Going to run before dinner tonight. I am trying for a mile again which should be interesting in the ice and snow.

  7. December 5, 2010 10:59 am

Ran four nights this week…even through snow flurries. Officially down 30 pounds since I started running! Go Me!

My goal was to strength train 2x (need to get into the habit) and run 3x (generally no problem), but I got food poisoning and completely failed. I’m getting ready to head out on my first run in a week today.

Well, I got knocked on my butt (ha,ha) by a GI bug this weekend after 2 of my kids spent Friday vomiting. I am hoping to feel well enough later today to go for a short run to hit my 4 runs per week target — the long run will have to be made up for during the week (I do have an afternoon off to fit it in). The swim isn’t happening this weekend, maybe during the week as well, but I built in some wiggle room on that with my 3 swims in December goal. It’s always the unanticipated stuff that throws us.

Making up a run workout that I missed yesterday…but other than that I’m on goal. Woot Woot! December=two spin workouts, one strength, and after today a run. The bonus was a intro ChiRunning workshop yesterday!

First week’s goal was almost met! Worked out 3x last week but my plan for a long run on Saturday was derailed by two things: the after-effects of the copious amount of wine I consumed at my husband’s holiday party and the gigantic welts my oh-so-sassy but oh-so-painful 3″ heels (also worn at my husband’s party) dug into the sides of my feet. I wore slippers all day yesterday–OUCH! Hoping for that elusive long run next weekend!

This blog ROCKS! It helps keep me accountable! I shut out all of my thoughts(excuses) and RAN (Wednesday, Friday, & Sunday…yeah!) Wednesday & Friday were a little more challenging with the kids. I had my toddlers dancing in the playroom to my running music & the baby napping while I ran on the tredmill. I had a few interruptions, but I didn’t give up…something I do easily. Today was definitley my best run! My hubby took the kids and I ran my happy little heart out!

I have been keeping track on google calendars of all the details of my runs/workouts. I am not near the runner as you girls are, but I sure do feel good today! Thanks SO much!

So far, so good … kindof. I had some challenges this week, but did manage to get in 3-4 runs/cardio (I think). Good idea Dimity for asking us to check-in because I honestly forget what I did during the week. Next week I will write my workouts down just to make sure I’m being 100% honest with myself.

One of the days I had to do the eliptical instead of running b/c it was a major thunderstorm during my 30 minute Barney break. One night I had to run in the dark through my neighborhood. I’m not used to that so it was kindof scary, but I do run faster. And yesterday I ran 4 miles (FAB for me), but I was starving all day after that, so I don’t know if I really came out ahead.

Goal -need to run 4 miles (instead of 2-3) on a regular basis, so my body adapts and isn’t so starving!

Monday I wasn’t able to run since the Hubby was away all day. But ran Tues, thursday, and Sat.(in 28 degree weather). Worked out at the gym wed. and Friday. So I only missed one day of running. This coming week I should be able to meet my goal of 6 days of working out!

I only got in 3 runs and my goal is 4/week. On a happy note – I PRed in a local 1/2 Marathon today! Lots of hills and bitter cold wind made it feel like a super accomplishment.

  22. December 5, 2010 3:02 pm

I’ve worked out twice since the new month; however, I’m still on to my goal. I ran 10 miles on the treadmill 😀

  23. December 5, 2010 3:25 pm

Considering I started on Wednesday, I’m calling this a good week. I got 3 runs in (met goal) and 1 yoga session. I missed 1 core/strength workout (goal is 2 per week), but I’m hoping to get it in this next week…

  24. December 5, 2010 3:25 pm

Fighting a chest cold so I missed one of my pilates classes and my weight training session, but I did get all three of my planned runs in….so all-in-all not too bad!

I’m hanging with my goal of improving my diet by eating fewer sweets and planning meals. We celebrated my husband’s 40th b-day last night, and I forewent dessert (didn’t even really miss it!) and made my treat two glasses of champagne: one glass for my husband, and one for the post-pregnancy PR I set in a 5K earlier in the day! :^)

My goal is to stick to my schedule of runs and yoga, and add strength training. I caught a horrible cold and missed one run this week and missed all yoga classes–oh well. I felt great after my long run today and I’ll try again next week to keep to the schedule.

Did pretty good, didn’t get in my Saturday run though. Just way to much going on- I did make myself get outside for my longer run this morning. I had promised myself that if there wasn’t snow/or ice on the road I was going. Boy was it cold though!! Glad I got out there had a great 5.25 mile run.

  29. December 5, 2010 4:25 pm

Hanging in there! 17 miles Saturday, the longest since my knee surgery. I’m excited! My running buddy, 70 years good, qualified for Boston today. I have no excuse!

  32. December 5, 2010 5:13 pm

Hit Goal 1. The kid looked at me like I was crazy when i told her we weren’t going to the gym. The break in schedule set everything into a tail spin. She refused to take off her pjs, so we just pulled on the rubber boots over the footies. The long rain coats, hats, and mittens all layered nicely, and my girl giggled through the process. Getting in the car seat was out of the question, so we just settled on a long puddle stomping session in our neighborhood.

Glad to see I’m not the only one to get derailed by sickness! Had a gross cold/cough all week. Did go out today (first time since Tuesday) but had a tough time getting a decent breath past all my chest congestion. Oh well – out there is better than not, I suppose. A tomorrow is a new week!

Great week! Goal: 15 miles and one strength workout. Actual: 19 miles and TWO strength workouts!

Next week will be challenging. We’re having a kid party on Saturday and a family party on Sunday for my oldest’s birthday, she has a school concert Tuesday night and my husband is going in early and/or working late most days this week. I’m hoping to avoid 10 pm (or worse, 11) treadmill runs, but we’ll see.

  41. December 5, 2010 8:11 pm

I did okay this week. Hit all of my workouts, although I shortened 1 of them by 15 minutes because of a late start. Clean eating was almost 90%. Got a little sidetracked by a dark chocolate with almonds and sea salt bar, but, hey, if I’m going to mess up with something it might as well be chocolate! Thanks for doing this!!

  42. December 5, 2010 9:19 pm

Ran two times at 4:30am (woo hoo!) just as planned. Had planned to do a longer run on Sat am, but hubby talked me into waiting to go run with him in the pm. The day got underway, and Christmas decorations took over and that plan went by the wayside. This is why I always try to run in the am. Nothing sidetrack you like going later in the day can. I think this week is looking to be a good run week… mostly because the temps have warmed up a bit… no more gloves in the early am! Yay!

Well, I did about half of my plan – two strength training sessions and two swimming sessions. No run (waaaay too busy weekend) and no bike. I’ll try again this week…

  44. December 6, 2010 5:05 am

Do you believe in miracles? Had to swap some days around and took my long run down a notch in order to meet up with my boys in town…. but I pretty much stayed on track. My husband (not normally the work out type) has been getting up at 4:45AM to use our elliptical machine and so I get up at 5 and head out in the door in the dark. His getting up makes a huge difference in my motivation level. Today he slept in, though, so I gotta squeeze in my yoga/pilates/faking it cross training work out in sometime later. I can live with that.

It was GLORIOUS! If I did not have the goal of 4 for the day I never would have wanted to head out for a run. That run was one for the books…so memorable in many ways. Good for the mind, body, and spirit…and for my puppy!

Thanks for encouraging the goal setting! For pics of my run (yes…it was so beautiful I stopped to take a few pics on my phone) see facebook!

On tap for the month, 5 days running most weeks, 1 spin class and 1 Body Pump (weight lifting) class. I will double up on Saturdays with Body Pump and a 3-4 mile run, so I may take one day of complete rest on Fridays. So I will gladly join this challenge, weather here is PERFECT for running these days (I live in Tampa, FL!).

I hung in there, but had to make adjustments. Held lifegroup at our house which meant giving up a long run for a day of cooking, cleaning and entertaining, and then didn’t feel like doing the P90X video (my goal, also) either. The videos want you to do 6 days and then one rest day. So, I got two rest days in and 6 workout days in an “eight day workout week”. 🙂 Adjustments for this thing called motherhood. 🙂 We just have to keep hanging in there. 🙂
