I race because: challenging and interesting off-road races keep the adventure in my life. Next adventure: the Hagg Lake Ultra in Portland, Oregon.

I started running because of: my fat dog; she had to lose 20 pounds or was going to keel over any day. I figured it wouldn’t kill me to run, so I started with a ½ mile loop. A few days later we went out and tried it again. Once I got over the jiggling in my trunk, it started to even be fun!

Mother of: 5
I run like a mother because: it is the closest thing to the power and exhilaration that I felt birthin’ my babies and now feel catching babies. I also run because I like to eat and drink wine.

I run: for many reasons, not least of which are salty face and stinky cheese.
I am rewarded with both after a 10 miler.

Today: was the first day I ran with my 4 year old riding his bike with no training wheels. He went for 40 minutes and I know it is inevitable that I will soon not be able to keep up with him. It is now finally time to sell my double jogger!

I am: currently living in Amsterdam and I get the opportunity to travel often with my husband and kids. Most recently, I’ve run in Bordeaux, France and Copenhagen, Denmark. But my favorite race is The Amsterdam 1/2 marathon. Very flat and fast!

Mother of: 2 “hey-let’s-see-what-happens-if-we-jump-off-the-deck-railing!” boys
I prefer: marathons over 5ks, trails over streets, fartleks over track workouts, gummy bears over Gu and my family over everything else.

Mother of: 2
I love: that my kids will have this image of me in their heads, long after I hang up my running shoes. Which I hope is never; I plan to run until I’m 80 years old.
Laura
Mother of: 1 + 1 due in late June
I run: because I love getting sweaty and dirty and feeling strong.
Lois
Mother of: 1
I started running: in late 2009, and love that I am doing something so powerful and personal for myself. I also love that I’m setting a good example for my son.

I was a: gymnast growing up, which meant my cardiovascular endurance was about 1.5 minutes (the length of my floor routine!). When we had to run 1.5 miles for conditioning, I can remember nearly passing out and complaining the entire time! Fast forward 8 years, and here I am, just completed my 4th half marathon–with only minimal complaining!
*Laura also makes scrapbooks for runners here.

I ran: on and off for most of my adult life until my daughter was diagnosed with a rare brain malformation, Joubert Syndrome, in April 2009. I started back seriously as a way to help cope with the stress of having a special needs child. I felt like I wanted to “do” something with my running so I started a fundraising campaign called “Jog for Joubert Syndrome” last December. My first race was the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K last March. We raised over $3000 at one race.

The double jogger is: my new best friend. I never thought I’d need one with the kids spaced five years apart, but I’ll end up with awesome quads from pushing it uphill, right?

Mother of: 2 (picture taken after daughter’s first 5k! woo!)
I started running: at age 38, and I’m 42 now. I am determined to get faster and be a ‘runner,’ no matter what. The support from fellow female runners women at races always amazes me. I wish the general female population would be as giving.

Mother of: 3
Running: clears my head and makes me a more patient person and mom. I prefer to go at it alone with my music. Power song? “Imma Be” by the Black Eyed Peas.
*and we love the tee!

Mother of: 2
I run: for peace and quiet. I originally started running for camaraderie of it, but the day-to-day runs are usually about being alone with my thoughts.
Linda
Mother of: 2 college-age kids “(that I miss!)”
Inspired by my sister: I began running again after a 20-year hiatus. I love the challenge and camaraderie that running brings.

Mother of: 2
After I had my youngest: I joined a running group in my town, and with no real running experience trained for a 10k. I got hooked. Now, I NEED to run.
