T is for tapering (finally!) moms

Tyrna

Mother of: twins
Running is: my way of getting re-centered. I wish it helped with weight loss, but it really just makes me more hungry.

I race because: I tend to get out the door more often with a goal in front of me. At times, though, the pressure to run because of a race adds more stress to an already stressed schedule and/or mental state.  It’s a fine line.

Mother of: 3
Running is: a commitment to be the best me every single day. On every single run. So, if that means pushing a 140+ pound stroller (seriously, I have a triple), exchanging sleeping in for early morning long runs or logging 10 miles on the treadmill, well then that’s how it is.

Tracy
Mother of: 3 (these two are twins, with lil sis behind camera)
Running is: the only time I DON’T think. I love it for that.

Running is: my anxiety relief and the vessel to reach my goals. I found something that I love, enjoy, crave, schedule into the busiest days, and it makes me stronger.  I think it’s cheaper than therapy, although my husband might not agree after seeing what I spend on races and at Fleet Feet.

Tracy
Mother of: 1 (which, as she says, is enough!)
I’ve started: running many times over the years and stopped many times too.  Since having my daughter, I started again and it’s my time. It’s my time to de-stress, my time to just breathe, my time to just be, to go wherever my feet will take me, to lose track of time, to just run.

I love: my treadmill; it makes running possible on week nights. Shannon (in pink) has a picnic dinner and a little TV time while I run. She presses me to get my running clothes on when we get home from work/daycare. That can’t have anything to do with the TV time could it?

Mother of: 4
I started running when: I turned 40, and realized I wasn’t getting any taller.
I also homeschool my kids, which I love, but found that I needed time when no one was asking anything of me. Running gives me that.

Twila
Mother of: 1
I run: when I am tired, sad, mad, angry, happy, bored, ate too much, need time alone, or want to watch trash on TV. I ran my first 5k in May of 2009, and am now training for my first full marathon in October of 2010.

Mother of: 2
Running to me: proves that Nietzsche was right– what does not kill you makes you stronger.  Run a 20-miler, and your next 10-miler won’t even leave you sore.

Terzah
Mother of: 2 (boy/girl twins)
I run because: it keeps me on the optimist side of the optimist-pessimist spectrum. It feels as natural and right as a good night’s sleep.

Tantea
Mother of: 2
When I became a runner: I found my identity. I am a runner just for me!

Tracy*
Mother of: 3
I run: to remember and to let go and so that I can set an example for my children – not to mention, there’s nothing like seeing them cheer me on at a race.

Mother of: 4
My youngest: is my mantra maker. From the moment he could talk, he didn’t stop! And whenever he is faced with a challenge, he talks to himself to get through. My last race had his little voice in my head, “I can do this, I can do this, I can do this.”

Tiddy
Mother of: 1

Running:
Keeps me slim, sane, and strong.

My Dad talked me into my first marathon at age 23 and ten years later, I’m still going strong!
